DONDE COMER EN MÁLAGA I
Jun 13, 2015- PLACES TO EAT IN MALAGA I -
We release our first post on Food & Drinks!! We will begin talking about the restaurants and other places we were on May and we will do this once per month. We love to go out to eat and drink although we are not too exigent and we like many different kind of restaurants expensive or cheap, elegant or informal, local and international food... So we will make a short review of the places showing you what we ordered, similar as the ones that we will do in Tripadvisor. We will write something about this excellent website to know where to eat everywhere in future posts. In May we stayed at home (only Javi was in Pisa few days), so all the places that we will show you are from Malaga, but in other months you will see restaurants from many other places in Spain or abroad. We want to ask sorry in advance because the pictures are not very good quality because they were not made to be published just for us, but we will promise the the ones of June will be better!

We begin the month celebrating Nadia's birthday with a little bit of delay in one place new for us, El Refectorium del Campanario. We have been several times in its little brother, El Refectorium Catedral, placed in the city center and we love it. The Campanario one is in the top of a hill (Cerrado Calderon) and has an spectacular views of Malaga bay. It was a shame that was a fresh night and we could enjoy the terrace, but we will go in summer for sure. The service was excellent and the food amazing. We ordered two starters, ajoblanco (a typical cold soup from Malaga, one of the Nadia's favourites) and scallops, and two main courses, duck and iberic pork. We finalized with two decilious desserts, chocolate passion and an ice-cream of a special flavor, torrijas. We accompanied this food with a nice Spanish red wine, PradoRey D.O Ribera del Duero.

In May, we went to a Tapas Route in Torre del Mar. Now, it is becoming very common this kind of routes where during a certain days many bars of a town offer one specific tapa plus drink very cheap and with very good quality. If you visit Malaga during Spring or Summer, pay attention if in one of the towns they are organizing this. It is very recommendable.

Other slightly different version of this is the Tapas Fairs, as La Marina Street Food or La Feria de la Tapa, where instead to visit the bars, are the bars who open a small place in a kind of tapas market. We went to La Marina and it was amazing, the food was so tasty and we had also the opportunity to try many wines from Sierras de Malaga and also to hear and dance with Soul and Rock and Roll live Music!!
The best way to begin a weekend when you are finishing the Friday work very late is to take a nice lunch in a place near of your job. So, this time we went to the Marisquería El Cenachero, a place where to eat fish with a good value for money. The service use to be fast and kind and the fish seem very fresh. We ordered clams, shells, anchovies and flounder (see down the Spanish version description to see the proper names if you want to order similar things in Spain).
That afternoon we were also to take a couple of tasty mojitos to a very nice and rustic place, El Balneario de los Baños del Carmen, which was thermal health resort almost a hundreds of years ago. The place could be a little bit better cared and the service seems slow or lost in rush moments, but the mojitos and the environments are wonderful! We will go soon to eat there are we will make you the full review.

A very good way to enjoy Malaga life at lunch time mainly during weekdays is going to the Bar of the Mercado Atarazanas to eat cheap and amazing typical fish and food. You must know you are going to eat standing and between a great multitude but is funny, the services is also amusing and the food excellent. In this picture you can see Padrón peppers, octopus, tuna and praws brochette, anchovies and gazpacho (again see Spanish names down) .

Also to enjoy the afternoon and evenings in Malaga you can go to the rooftop of the Malaga Palacio Hotel with exiting views. We must say that we went just for a coffee and dessert and the service was so slow and the desert nothing special, but we will try to go soon by night to try the cocktails and to dinner. We prefered very much a near place, Kaleido in Muelle 1, where the cocktails are fantastic (also expensive!) and the environment very nice.
And we finish the month in a very famous Chiringuito of Malaga, Tropicana, where we ate very good fish. We have heard about a slow service but with us was very good and the food although not cheap had a very good quality. We ordered ajoblanco, porra antequerana, tuna carpaccio, monkish and a white chocolate soup with red fruits. We think it is a very good place spend a beach day near Malaga city center.
