Con este post comenzamos nuestro diario de viajes de Nueva York hablando de nuestra llegada desde el aeropuerto neoyorkino JFK hasta nuestro hotel, el CitizenM Times Square. El vuelo con Delta Airlines fue muy bien, aunque tenemos que decir que el tamaño del avión era más propio de un vuelo doméstico que de un transatlántico. Pero bueno, entendemos que es la única manera de llenar un vuelo directo desde Málaga a Nueva York, así que no nos quejaremos. Después del control de pasaporte y demás (no os olvidéis de rellenar el formulario ESTA antes de viajar a EEUU!!) nuestras maletas estaban esperándonos. Así que salimos pronto, pero antes paramos en un cajero (ATM) para sacar algunos dólares, ya que últimamente no solemos llevar el dinero cambiado desde aquí porque los bancos pueden cobrar comisiones bastantes altas. Así que teníamos dos opciones, cambiar en una casa de cambio (que en Nueva York tienen una comisión altísima y más en el aeropuerto!!) o el cajero, que fue lo que hicimos. No queríamos sacar mucho dinero porque íbamos a pagar con la tarjeta de crédito todo lo que pudiéramos (ya que pensamos que es la mejor opción). Si haces esto, asegúrate de la cantidad de dinero que quieres sacar porque el cajero te carga 3$ cada vez que sacas más las comisiones de tu banco, si las hay, así que es mejor sacar todo de una vez. En nuestro caso queríamos 400$ más la comisión, 403$, que con el tipo de cambio de ese día hubieran sido unos 360€ pero se nos cargó en nuestra cuenta 375€, ya que el tipo de cambio que aplican los bancos son siempre peores que los reales (y ocurre lo mismo con los pagos con la Visa, pero creemos que es siempre mejor que pagar con dinero previamente cambiado).

With this post we begin our New York travel blog talking about our arrival from the JFK airport to our hotel, CitizenM Times Square. The flight with Delta Airlines was very good, but we must say that the plane size was more adequate for an internal flight than for transatlantic one. But well, we understand this is the only way to be able to offer a direct flight between Malaga and New York, so it was ok. After, when we pass the passport control (don't forget to fill the ESTA form if you are going to travel to USA!) our luggage was waiting for us. Then, we wanted to be out of the airport soon, but before, we searched for an ATM machine to get some cash in dollars. Lately, we don't use to change  money in banks because the commission can be high, so we have two options, a currency exchange (in this case the commission is even higher and more in the airport!) or the ATM, so we chose the later one. We wanted to have only a small amount of money because we planned to pay with credit card as much as possible (we think it is the best option). If you do this, be sure about the amount you consider to spend, because every time you get money from an ATM machine you will be charged with 3$ plus the commission of your own bank. In our case, we wanted 400$ plus the commission, 403$ that with the exchange rate of that day was equivalent to 360€, but in our bank account were charged 375€, because the rate applied for the bank is always worse than the real one. The same happens with the Visa payments, but we think is better than if you change cash to pay.

Well, now the transport to the city. We had also basically two options, a taxi (the official yellow ones) or the subway, what we preferred because is much cheaper and the time is not very much compared  to the taxi. We took the Airtrain to go from the airport terminal to Jamaica subway station (less than 15 minutes).  Then before you go out to the Airtrain station you have to pay the ticket, 5$ and buy the subway ticket or card. As in our case, we wanted to buy the 7 days unlimited metro card, 31$, there are also 1 and 30 days cards. As the card are rechargable, an extra fee. Then, instead to use the machines we bought both tickets in asmall newsstand. We went out to the Airtrain station following the signals to the subway station to take the blue line E in order tol go to Times Square. And less than 40 minutes later we went there, again the same noises and smell as 12 years ago, with the same impression of being inside of a movie :-) After, we walk one minute through the 50th Street to the nice door of our beautiful CitizenM hotel. We will dedicate a special post to it, because we are very good surprised of this new concept hotel where you feel as at home.

Como podéis ver llevábamos ropa muy cómoda que es nuestra recomendación par un vuelo largo, nada estrecho o skinny ni tacones. Nadia lleva un top crop (de Bershka), unos short boyfriend con unas sandalias planas bio y un shopping bag (de Suite Blanco). Y Javi unos vaqueros, una camiseta y zapatillas (de Pull & Bear). Además llevábamos unas rebecas a mano porque en esos vuelos suele hacer mucho frío.

As you can see, we dressed very comfortable clothes which is our recommendation for a long flight, nothing tight or skinny neither heels. Nadia wears a crop top (from Bershka), boyfriend shorts with bio sandals and a shopping bag (from Suite Blanco). And Javi jeans, t-shirt and snickers (from Pull & Bear. Also both brought a cardigan because in those long flights the temperature use to be very low.
